Harps of Lorien is closing.

After over 25 years of making harps and Kinder Lyres, etc and providing excellent service to Waldorf Schools, families, harpists, and harp therapists, etc., Raphael Weisman has decided to retire and begin his new work teaching the HeartThread and organizing International Inter-Species Day on the 11th November 2011. There will be more links to these activities soon. After July he will not be offering any custom work or taking new orders for items not in stock. If you wish to purchase an instrument from Harps of Lorien, now is the time to do so.

There are a few catalogs and stores that will still provide Kinder Lyres and kits to the Waldorf community and families for the 2010 holiday season while their stocks last.

In the meantime, we have in stock and are making one last batch of Kinder Lyres, Little Minstrels and a few harps in the shop and will list the inventory below

Harps of Lorien is a co-operative business with a mission to provide quality hand-crafted instruments for healing. These instruments are blessed and prayed over in the making, sanding, and finishing. It is in this phase that the beauty and grain of the wood comes alive and finds its voice; We inscribe them with mantras and prayers for peace.

Harps of Lorien is a small cottage industry located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Northern New Mexico. The magnificent sunsets, the wooded mountain slopes, and the natural beauty of the environment form an inspiring, creative backdrop for the making of harps and other musical instruments, and a vision of peace and community. The name Lorien was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, and is the home of the elves.

The founder of Harps of Lorien, Inc, Raphael Weisman somewhat resembles an Elf himself. A lover of trees, he trained as a master luthier (instrument maker) in London where he built lutes, vihuelas, orpharions, bandoras and various other strange shaped Renaissance and Baroque fretted instruments. He is training to be a therapeutic harp practitioner and is a practitioner of the HeartThread, a system of healing that aids in the release of conditioned patterns from the body and the unconscious. He also is a co- founder of Healing the Scars, an organization that trains people around the world in the use of HeartThread and other techniques for healing the imprints from war, trauma and violence.
